Zancudo Restaurants

As Reviewed by Zancudo Dining Enthusiast (why cook at home)Tom Cronk

Tom CronkI was asked by an old friend, to write several, small articles, on the subject of dinning in Zancudo. I felt then and still do that I’m not the one to do this. ( It should be written by the Zancudo Times Editor Dar Randall a true gastronomical giant.) But, All that aside, I will give it my best. One of the first things to remember, is there isn’t any type of fast food in Zancudo. Almost everything is prepared after you have made your selection. So, sit back, relax, relearn the art of having a conversation or listening and have a beverage.

Meet the owners and staff but most of all just relax, Zancudo is not in a hurry and you shouldn’t be either. The second thing to think about is, what kind of evening do you wish? A nice quiet dinner overlooking a tropical garden, with wine, pasta and music or some food and fun with friends, in a more fiesta surroundings. The choices are yours, and there is a nice selection. What I can’t do for you, is separate the food, from their environments. Every one of these is owned and operated by some very special people. Well! That’s enough of the soft soap.

I have selected five different restaurants to start with, and may add more later on. They are… Macondo’s…Oceana…La Puerta Negra…Sol Y Mar and Iguana Verdi. No one is first and no one is last, they are all, simply different. (If I sound a little nervous remember I have seen all these folks with knives in their hands!!)

MACONDO’S………..OK!

This is the third time I have tried to write something, that made even a little sense. If you are like me, you have found that all the really good words are over used. Fresh, Relax, Wonderful, Home-Like, Tropical, Lush…well you get the idea. World-wide advertising has used the word fresh, so many times, that it has lost its meaning, and they use it for everything, from under-arm deodorant to carpet cleaner. So instead of sounding like another bad commercial for the Olive Garden, I’m just going to tell you why and what I keep coming back for. So try it, I think your going to be surprised.

La Puerta Negra Ristorante Italiano…..or better known
to all as (Alberto’s)
…. No matter, who you talk with or where you go in Zancudo, all you would have to say is “Where is Alberto’s Ristorante?” and you would be shown the way. It’s on the main road (I don’t know why I said that there is only one road) across from the small grocery story, behind his house and surrounded by his garden, is a small patio with four of five tables, this is Alberto’s Ristorante.

Oceano Cabinas Restaurant..........
Oceano Cabinas (in my humble opinion) is in a category by it self. It’s always been my feeling that everyone does something special, but no-one does everything special. Oceano (Mark and Stephanie) have found away around this unwritten rule.

Sol Y Mar Cabinas and Restaurant:.....As I mentioned early on, every one of these places is different. Rick and Lorie and their staff have taken on, to me, the hardest job in Zancudo. And that is to try and provide something for everyone. 365 days a year

Manolo’s Bar Sussy:.....This is one of the hardest places for me to write about, because it is, in my mind, my home away from home. So! I will tell you a little of what I like, and let you come to your own conclusion.

Iguana Verde Cabinas and Restaurant:........ I must admit I have only been frequenting Iguana Verde, for the last couple years. But even in that short period of time I have seen a lot of improvement. The restaurant and cabinas are managed by Andy and his lovely assistant Margo.
