Zancudo Restaurants

                                                                                                                                                         ………..OK! This is the third time I have tried to write something, that made even a little sense. If you are like me, you have found that all the really good words are over used. Fresh, Relax, Wonderful, Home-Like, Tropical, Lush…well you get the idea. World-wide advertising has used the word fresh, so many times, that it has lost its meaning, and they use it for everything, from under-arm deodorant to carpet cleaner. So instead of sounding like another bad commercial for the Olive Garden, I’m just going to tell you why and what I keep coming back for. So try it, I think your going to be surprised.

Macondo's is off the road on the river-side of Zancudo, across the street from the hard-ware store. It sits in, what I think of a tropical park, with palms and flowers everywhere and the path is lit by old fashion street lights. From the road many people are unaware that they even open, but if the old fashion street lights are on, then they are definitely open. So, walk along the path, kick off your shoes, climb the stairs, carefully step over the dog and prepare yourself for something you won’t find at home. The dinning area is the balcony on the second floor; the kitchen is in the center. Find a table, under a ceiling fan (don’t feel bad about taking the best chair.

Unless you have a lady with you, then make a show of giving it to her. Hey! It’s the tropics). Then I would suggest you order your beverage of choice, look at the menu, and then ask the owner’s wife for the specials of the evening. (I know most of them by heart, but I always love to hear her say them again. She has this  charming accent that translates beautifully into Italian, Spanish or English) Also you mite ask how you pronounce any of the 6-8 different types of sauses for your pasta, that way you can show off the next time you come here to dine.      

Macondo’s is the type of place that makes you want to say Please and Thank-you about everything.  I’m not going to tell you what to order or even suggest. If you love pasta or seafood, salads or home baked bread, you can’t go wrong. So sit back and listen, to the good-natured teasing coming from the kitchen, the soft music or maybe conversations at the next table, take a sip of wine and close your eyes for a second. Your meal, no-matter what you ordered, is being prepared mostly from scratch, in the next room. If you run out of wine or beer, order another, it’s worth the wait. 

After your meal and you have paid the tab, stick your head in the kitchen and thank the chef and his helper. I know your mother and father told you always to do that, but Zancudo is a place where they never forgot it. 

Now if the restaurants of Zancudo are not to your liking, not a problem. There is a very nice water taxi to Golfito, first thing in the morning.  Also, if you find something special, let us hear from you, or stop down at Bar Sussy and say hello.
