First Report of the year, will try this year to edit at least 2 reports per month.....
We fished last week from the 26 of December till the 29th with Mr Jerry Durand ...Jerry is a very very experienced angler from Chesapeke bay he is the owner of Bay propeler Company ( Be in touch with him wathever your propeler questions /Problems he is the Man will be glad to forward his e mail..) all of a life close to water he has been fishing so many place in the world.......more than 50 years fishing...and still every weekend he go fishing
Weather has been very nice as always at that time of the year, will be like that till June when our rainy season start...
From my new Guest House located on Lake shore in National park of Los Guatousso we fished for Tarpon on the upper part of Rio San Juan...and Rainbow bass in close Solentiname Archipelago...guide Eliesser and Fernando, boat one of our new open Sportfishing engine Suzuki...
We had a bit of problem to locate fish as in our usual spots there were no activity...tarpon moved a bit..let say 300/400 yards from each spot...Why? I cannot explain that in a formal way but probably because with Summer time ( Season are the contrary then in USA or Europe here ) we have now less water in the river , probably a move of the so abundant bait/Sardine they feed on..
After a bit of strugle everything went well and my pleasure to report many hits, many jumped tarpon using Rapala Shad Rap and also Rapala floating Magnum ( Selection of colour has been very important...not any one of these work all depends of lights and water clarity..) , Jerry caught is first tarpon in his life on 25lb test after 45 mn of fight released fish has been estimated around 130lb...and folowing day came the great moment as he had another one on for 4 hours that time fish was around 200lb. Jerry was using one of our Spining rod with 12lb braided line...Leader touch the point of rod several time so " fish count" but could not be put in the boat...
This fish of 200lb could have been a new IGFA World Record for the 12lb IGFA Class line...As usual we would anyway not have claimed it because we release all fish and if we respect the actual regulation of IGFA to claim a record it is necessary to kill the fish as Pictures are required etc etc..
Our goal is than all guests catch at least an over 100lb taron in his trip and we do that in 98% of the trips... We made our own rules YES we fish in absolute respect of IGFA rules...Setting of line and also no one erlse than Guest Touch the Rod etc etc...
Many of our guests " beat" as well the 8lb, and 12lb IGFA Class record as well for men and women and also all the Children and Junior record ..( my sons and Friends ) but always released the fish ...
The bigest weighed fish ever as been 235lb caught by Mr Bill Cowin ...Yes we weighed this fish as due to accident the lures went in the geals and bleeding fish would have died...we all felt so so sorry...
Concerning released fish I remember of so many fish over 200lb and of two whose estimated weight was around 280lb 300lb?...These so big fish are of diferent colour almost black on the back and "Golden on the side" we figure these "monster" do not go back at sea once they migrate here they consider tha place very confortable and stay in the lake river and ponds around were they found all year round abundant feeding and almost constant Water temperature.....Easy life they get fat...and very very powerfull ...
From a general point of view all the tarpon we have here if same lenght are much heavier than the ones than can be caught at sea...they are much fater let say 25%...
For coming months ( till July ) we will have the same conditions , Good weather, abundant tarpon, Fair water Clarity and same quality in Tarpon fishing...
I also in this letter mention than we fish remote area the scenery of our trips ss made of still untouch Jungle, Wild life, Flore, Bird watching are first class also a lot of History, Arts , Discovery are part of my trips..
