Greetings from Sunny Playa Zancudo…..

…..and the sun isn’t the only thing that has been hot – the fishing these last
couple of weeks has been the HOTTEST of our season so far!

Some suggest, that we are about to go into another El Nino cycle, and that the
elevated water temperatures are what are attracting the fish in record numbers.

As you probably already know, El Nino is a warming of the ocean, which tends to
appear starting around Christmas time some years. The name “El Nino” was coined
some years back by Peruvian fishermen…..”Nino” referring to the Christ’s Child,
because it brought an abundance of fish during the Holiday Season.

Among our recent guests who experienced this phenomenon were Hank Greenwood and
Loren Ameen. And they really did cash in on the action: During their stay they
released 15 sailfish! In fact, the duo chose to take a day off from fishing to
rest their weary arms, and we understand they had great luck in a totally
different sport: gold panning! Mr. Greenwood seemed a bit tight lipped when
asked ‘how much Gold did you get away with?’….we just hope he won’t run into any
challenges should the Customs folks get news of his good fortune!
Hank and Loren
had some great days fishing ‘inshore’ as well, and on one single day their total
catch exceeded 80 fish of practically all the species one finds around here!
Though not a record for around here, we wouldn’t suspect we’ll see both of them
again real soon….perhaps for a try of adding their names to the long list of
anglers who have gotten their names into the record books.

Our long-time friend and client Bill Lucado hosted the annual Board of Directors
meeting for the Music Makers Foundation last week. Bill, who lives in Macon,
Georgia, spends several months out of each year at his marvelous Zancudo
retreat; “Casa Cemento” he calls it modestly,  though we think ‘Taj Majal’ would
be a much more appropriate moniker.
And talking about TAJ MAHAL…..that’s exactly who was among his guests this past
week!
The dean of ‘The Blues’, supported by a large group of other musicians from the
Music Makers, put on a spectacular concert at Bill’s house. Anybody who is
anybody at all was there it seemed, and we all owe Bill for a splendid nights’
entertainment!
Thanks Bill!
Mr. Lucado did treat his guests to a couple days of
fishing, and we’re happy to report that their catch included over two dozen
Sailfish, numerous Dorado, and practically a boat load of delicious Yellow Fin
Tuna. In fact, Mr. Blues, Taj Majal, showed us that music was not his only
forte: he scored the prize for the day with a Yellow Fin in the 65 pound range.
Nice going, Taj!
