Golfo Dulce

Last time out, with visitors from Bermuda (Sonny, Caroline, and Mike) April 24, brought 5 or 6 "cutoffs" from some good size sharks just off "The Rock" at Matapalo. Not sure if they were Hammerhead or Tiger. In either case it seemed to put the "football" yellowfin tuna out to more open waters, as a pretty good run of the later mentioned were in good supply the previous week. Frustrated with our shark adventure (no wire leaders) we moved up into the gulf and caught a nice Dorado of about 20 lbs, always a pleasant inshore surprise. It appears that Dorado have been quite happy hanging out well inside the gulf recently. Roosterfish have been scarce, but one just never knows when the next school or two may show up. I just hope I'm out on the water when they do!

Hola from Zancudo Costa Rica
This past week I had a repeat visitor from California, Nino and his first timer friend Mike. The inshore action is finally picking up with Roosters and BIG Jacks. Last Thursday May 22 started off with a rare "double" hook up. Nino landed his fish first after a 10 minute bout, a 27 lb Jack. Meanwhile Mike was still battling his bruiser, for 15 minutes or so longer. We were razzing him a bit, thinking it was another big Jack, but he certainly had the last laugh as a Rooster in the 40 lb class was brought in, photographed, and released. We caught a couple more Jack's, and had a hook pull out of something BIG. Again giving Mike yet another razzing for loosing a fish that we never got to see. I hate when that happens!! All in all, not a bad day. Looking forward to the next trip! I got a feeling the Roosters are about to make for some great action.
